Cyrus Chestnut, a Baltimore native, master of keyboards and is a musical force that uses his classical, Gospel and Jazz influences to capture and entertain his audience all over the world. He is one of the world's most respected pianists as well as a composer and an educator. He is a noted bandleader, music director who has played at the world's most prestigious venues and jazz festivals, including the Kennedy Center, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz, the Northsea Jazz Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center, New Orleans Jazz Fest and Newport to name a few.
As a bandleader, Cyrus Chestnut's repertoire is vast and his work has been featured in films such as Robert Altman's Kansas City and Piano Grand: A Smithsonian Celebration. With more than a dozen studio albums in his discography, Cyrus continues to experiment with his familiar integration of jazz, spiritual and classical sound that reflect his heritage and identity as an artist. Evidence of this brilliant integration has been displayed by his work as a music director with the legendary Kathleen Battle on her 1995 release "So Many Stars" while participating on her presentation "Underground Railroad, A Spiritual Journey" and his recently created work for Jazz quintet and choir, "The Saga Of The Cross." His latest studio release on Highnote Records entitled "Natural Essence" features Buster Williams and Lenny White and has garnered many accolades.

Chestnut is devoted to education and community engagement and he is an alumnus of the nation's top music institutions, including the Peabody Preparatory and The Walden School. Recently appointed to the faculty at the prestigious Howard University Department, Chestnut continues to honor the legacy of education and mentorship by offering lectures on jazz piano and improvisation to the next generation of musical artists.
