The Morgan State University Jazz Ensemble has been a part of the Morgan State University Band Program since 1971 and Melvin N. Miles, Jr. has been the conductor since 1973. This ensemble serves the university and the community as an entertainment unit and as a tool for the student musicians to improve their improvisational, composing, arranging and conducting skills in the genre of jazz and commercial music. Many of the former members are now touring and studio musicians. Committed to high standards, this ensemble has an excellent reputation and maintains a very active performance schedule.
Their annual concert showcases their "chops" as a Big Band powerhouse. Music lovers should not miss this!
